        On October 6th 2004, the Chairman of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong held a talk
        with French President Jacques Chirac and stressed that President’s
        visit to Vietnam on the eve of the fifth ASEM summit was an evidence of
        closer partnership between both countries.
         At the meeting, Jacques Chirac confirmed the development of
        partnership with Vietnam was one of priorities in the country’s
        policies for Asian countries and pledged to continue giving Vietnam more
        supports in its national renovation and international eco nomic
        integration process and providing Vietnam with development assistance in
        various forms.
         Vietnam and France signed 8 cooperative documents, including the
        Vietnam-France-Burkina Faso triangular frame agreement on technological
        transfer and energy; the Vietnam-France-Burkina Faso triangular frame
        agreement on food for children; the cooperative agreement on the
        establishment of the French Universities’ Center in Hanoi; the
        administrative agreement on the recognition of training process and
        degree granting; etc.
